This Privacy Policy explains how the mobile application +Frames handles your information. The App is provided by Levin Meraner, a private individual based in Switzerland. For any privacy request, contact support@plus-frames.com.
+Frames is an astrophotography planning tool. It stores your data locally on your device and does not require an account or login. Certain optional features send limited data to third-party services to work (AI assistant, image plate-solving, city-name lookup, reference images). The App shows no ads. We advertise +Frames on Meta platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and measure those ads in aggregate only (Section 6); we do not track you across other apps or websites and never ask for tracking permission.
The following is stored locally on your device (via Apple SwiftData / app storage) and is not transmitted to us: your saved equipment, imaging setups and sessions, photos you add to the app, your in-app chat history, calendar notes, chosen observing locations and preferences. If you delete the App, this data is removed with it.
Only when you use the related feature, the App sends the following:
We ask each provider only for what the feature needs. When data is transferred to recipients in the USA, this may involve a transfer outside your country; we rely on the providers' own safeguards and privacy terms. Please review their policies: OpenAI (openai.com/policies), astrometry.net, Apple (apple.com/legal/privacy), and Wikimedia (foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy).
With your permission, the App uses your device location (via Apple Core Location) to compute an accurate sky map and object visibility. Location is used on the device and, where relevant to the features above, sent as context. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings; the App then falls back to a default location.
The App may offer optional links to external websites operated by third parties — for example a light-pollution map (lightpollutionmap.app) that you can open to look up the sky quality of your location. When you tap such a link, your device opens that website and your location coordinates may be included in the address. These sites are not controlled by us and are governed by their own privacy policies.
To apply fair-use limits to the AI features, the App generates a random identifier and sends it with AI requests to our proxy. This identifier is not your name, is not linked to your identity, and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. Our proxy keeps aggregate monthly usage counters, and short-lived technical request logs (deleted automatically after at most 14 days) that we use to diagnose problems and improve answer quality.
The App additionally sends anonymous usage events to our server at plus-frames.com, tagged with the same random identifier: ratings you give to assistant answers, search terms that found no match in the catalog, the model names of the equipment you have saved, which targets are viewed and how often app features are used, and technical error reports, together with basic technical context (app version, device model — e.g. "iPhone 17 Pro" —, iOS version and the device's time zone, e.g. “Europe/Paris”). These events contain no other location data, no e-mail address and no chat content, and are used only to improve the App. They are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Advertising measurement (Meta). From version 1.0.2 the App includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK so that we can see, in aggregate, whether our ads on Instagram and Facebook lead to installs and subscriptions. The SDK reports to Meta Platforms (Ireland/USA) that the App was installed and opened, and when a free trial or subscription starts, together with basic technical context (device model, iOS version, app version, a vendor identifier that Apple generates per developer and an anonymous SDK identifier). Tracking permission is never requested and the advertising identifier (IDFA) is never collected; Meta therefore receives this data only for aggregated measurement (Apple SKAdNetwork / Meta Aggregated Event Measurement) and not linked to your Meta account by us. See Meta's privacy policy (facebook.com/privacy/policy).
The App contains a small hidden arcade game. To play it you choose a fighter name. That name, together with your best score, the night reached, the world and the date of the run, is stored on our server and shown in a public ranking inside the App to every player. The name is linked only to the random identifier above, not to your identity, and cannot be changed afterwards; to have it removed, use "Send feedback" in the App. Please do not use your real name if you do not want it shown.
When an equipment research result is confirmed, the product's name and technical specifications are added to an anonymous shared equipment catalog on our server, so the same product can be answered from the catalog for all users without a new search. The catalog stores product data and usage counters — not who researched the product. If you later correct a researched specification in your gear list, the changed field (old and new value) is reported to our server with the same random identifier as a data-quality hint so we can review the catalog entry.
+Frames offers an auto-renewing premium subscription. Payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your name, address or payment card details. Our server receives anonymous subscription status notifications from Apple (for example that a subscription was started, renewed or refunded) so the App can keep premium access working; these notifications are not linked to your identity. To apply the fair-use limits of Section 6 per subscription, the App also sends its Apple-signed subscription receipt to our server. From that receipt the server stores only the subscription's anonymous transaction identifier, product and expiry date, linked to the random device identifier — never your name, Apple ID, address or payment details, which Apple does not share with us.
+Frames is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Where the GDPR or equivalent laws apply, we process data on the basis of: performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b)), our legitimate interest in providing and securing the App (Art. 6(1)(f)), and — where applicable — your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), for example your permission to access location.
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and you may object to or restrict certain processing. Because most data lives only on your device, deleting the App removes it. For anything held on our side, contact support@plus-frames.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
On-device data remains until you delete it or uninstall the App. Our proxy retains aggregate monthly usage counters, which reset over time, and technical request logs that are deleted automatically after at most 14 days. Feedback messages and anonymous usage events (Section 6) are kept as long as needed for support and product analysis, then deleted. Subscription records (Section 7) are kept while the subscription is active and for a short grace period afterwards. Third-party providers retain data according to their own policies.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
